You open it, and a kaleidoscopic panic attack of light and sound envelops.
It hurts.
Your eyes and ears squint at the blast, every nerve ending buzzes, ricochets and rattles.

Snares made years ago meeting synth pads crafted yesterday.
Voices that soften and deepen over decades.
Hands that, one day, start hurting and don’t know how to stop.
Symphonies once learned and now forgotten.
Melodies still remembered by mind but not by touch.
Friends that come and go and come again.
Paths closed off by regret, and new ones formed by resentment.
Struggling to see my Yiayia’s face, as the detailed memory of her untangles and fades into myth years after her passing.
The way your eyes flicker, and how your face looks when bathed in golden specks of sunlight and dust.
Disappointment and joy melt into obsidian.
Dissolved into the neural network of the universe, who can only learn to listen.

Evidence that we existed in this moment in time.
I hope you unclose your eyes and keep living.
